A couple of random thoughts to expand upon later...

Me: Lovebug, you need to go to sleep?
Lovebug: Why?
Me: Because I said so
Lovebug: Don't say so Mommy

Me: Do you want some blueberries?
Lovebug: Yes, don't wash them
Me: I have to wash them or you'll get sick, you don't want to get the golleywobbles (something my mom or grandmother always used to say to me)
As I'm washing the blueberries off..
Lovebug: You're washing all the golleywobbles off?
Me: *laughing* yes, they went down the drain
Lovebug: The golleywobbles went down the drain?
Me: Yes
Lovebug: Why?
Me: because they're dirty

Princess had her first haircut today, it was really just a trim to get rid of some of the long scraggly hair she's had since she was a baby. She had a couple of patches that she never lost and they needed to be taken care of. She now has a really cute pageboy and looks adorable! And for the first time in a long time, her hair isn't in a ponytail or pigtails and it's not in her face.

Potty Training Lovebug

Well, we decided that this long holiday weekend was the perfect time to work on potty training Lovebug.
When we woke up this morning I put on his new big-boy underwear. At first he said I want my big boy underwear. I think what he meant is plain white underwear not ones with characters on it, LOL.

So, we put on his big boy underwear and I had him sit on the potty. We talked about how we're going to sit on the potty every time the timer goes off on my phone and how when he does go pee-pee in the potty that he'll get a Buzz Lightyear sticker. He sat there for about a minute and said he was all done. We did this a couple of times this morning. I believe it was after the 2nd time that about 10 minutes later he went in his underwear, the good thing is that he told me right afterward that he had gone so we got him changed right away.

As of right now (11:30 am), he has gone twice in his underwear and none on the potty. But at least now he's more willing to sit on the potty every 30 minutes and he sits there for about 5 minutes "trying".

Ok, so I didn't do as well as I thought I would updating this as the weekend went on. It's now Wednesday, December 2nd and I started this on Thanksgiving, LOL. At any rate, over the weekend Lovebug went back & forth. Thursday & Friday went fairly well, Saturday he wanted a diaper. On Sunday we had no diapers so I gave him a choice of either a pull-up or big boy underwear. He wanted the underwear and did great in it all day long.

Monday was back to school (daycare), he wore a pull up. And he went all day DRY!! He peed and pooped on the potty all day long. I was so excited for him. So, now he's been in big boy underwear all week and doing great.  Today he went poop on the potty again. He told my dad that myself and momo (my mom) don't know how to poop in the potty because we're girls and only boys poop in the potty. ROFL He says the darndest things.

My Little Fashion Diva

I have found that I tend to post a lot about Lovebug only because he says so many funny things. But this post is all about Princess.

She is definitely my little fashion Diva. While we were at Disney, we were in a store and I was looking at some shirts for her. Well, the shoes happened to be at her level so she grabbed a pair of Princess flip-flops and held on to them for dear life. I did buy them for her as they were too cute to pass up. She'll be able to wear them next summer.

Earlier this week, I decided that it was time to put her in her winter jacket instead of just a fleece. It's one of the 3-in-1 kinds so I had to put the fleece part back into the outer shell. As I was putting it together she was watching me and was so very excited to be wearing a new jacket.

Then the next day (Wednesday), I was getting her dressed. I put on her shirt and her jeans. I was going to put on her sneakers even though in my head I was thinking that her brown shoes would match better (they were in the drawer so she never saw them). Well, as soon as I was about to put on her sneakers she threw a fit at me and was reaching for her drawer where she knows her shoes are kept.  She wasn't happy until I took out her brown shoes and put them on her, because after all they did match better than her sneakers.

Ahhhh, my Little Fashion Diva!

Another funny Lovebug conversation

This morning as I was putting Lovebug into the car after The Little Gym I told him that he was a goofy boy. His response to me. "I'm not a goofy boy, I'm Mickey Mouse". I laughed and looked at him and said "You're Mickey Mouse?" and he responded "Yes, and Sissy is Minnie Mouse".

It was so funny. I think this was partly due to their Halloween costumes and partly due to the fact that we had just come home from Disney.

Halloween 2009

Overall we had a good Halloween 2009. Lovebug was just getting over a fever virus so he wasn't too in to it. It was a drizzly night so we really didn't stay out for long. We went to maybe 4 or 5 houses and that was it. In our neighborhood a lot of people just leave the candy in a bowl on the porch because the entire family goes around Trick or Treating, so we saw most everyone we wanted to just walking around and didn't have to actually go their house.

Haven't updated in a while

Oh geez, well it's been a while since I've posted and Lovebug has said so many funny things tonight now if only I can remember them all.

Ok, first off, at dinner. Lately he's been wanting me to feed him including holding his cup for him, I have NO idea what's up with this. Tonight I asked him why I had to feed him and I asked him why. His response? "Because I'm busy". I asked what he was busy doing, first it was eating his vitamins and then it was drinking his milk.

His other favorite saying is "it's too hard", this could be in relation to walking, eating, doing something we ask him too.

He was also super whiney again tonight (he was last night too), when I was putting on his pj's I asked him if he could stop whining and he said "yes, after", so I of course asked "after what?" and he said "after you stop talking"...*dumb look on my face*

Oh and last night. He woke up around 2:30 am for some reason. When he gets up at night he opens his door, turns on his light, turns on the hall light and then comes into our room. So, he did that. He came in and said he had a booboo on his foot and it needed to be kissed, so I did that and put him back to bed. He then continued to come in about every 5 minutes until 3:45 or so. Another time it was to put the pillows in the closet (these were our decorative pillows that were on the floor). I have no idea how he knew they weren't in there, he hadn't been in our room to see that.

I tell you, he is something else and looking back on it, it's all funny but in the moment...not so much!

And again I'm only talking about Lovebug. Princess is doing great, she has more words "pia" (pizza) is probably her latest one, so cute! She has been fighting with a cold & fever, I just hope everyone is healthy before we leave next Saturday for Disney.

They both had a great Halloween and as soon as we find the card reader for the camera I'll get pictures posted.

Baby Loss Awareness Day & My Special Group of Friends

Tomorrow is Baby Loss Awareness Day. This is a day to remember all babies lost before, during and just after birth. Light a candle at 7pm to help us remember.

As you may or may not know, we lost a baby on November 24, 2005. I was 8 weeks along and it was Thanksgiving Day. My due date was June 17, 2006. As you can imagine, it was a terrible day.

In March 2006 we conceived Lovebug. He definitely replaced the hole in my heart that had been created by our loss. I couldn't have been happier! He was born 100% healthy on November 17, 2006.

I found out in October 2007 that I was pregnant. This was a bit of a surprise! I was on birth control at the time so we weren't trying. But it was indeed a blessing. Once I calculated the dates I discovered that my due date was June 17, 2008, exactly 2 years after the due date of my lost baby. I couldn't believe it. The first 8-12 weeks were so tough wondering if this baby was going to make it. But I truly believe that Princess was brought to us by our angel and that's why there were so many similarities. She was born 100% healthy on June 9, 2008. She is indeed our special miracle!

To be honest, I don't think about my miscarriage often. It was a sad time of my life and I often wonder what that baby would be like today. But I wouldn't have Lovebug now if I had had that baby and I probably wouldn't have Princess. I do think about that baby around this time every year and of course on November 24th. Thanksgiving will never again be the same for me.

However, because of my miscarriage I met a wonderful group of women. We all met on a message board on WebMd and formed special friendships. We unfortunately all share the bond of having had miscarriages. Luckily though, most of us have gone on to have at least 1 baby if not 2 or more (Ashley!) since then.

Among those amazing women, I have my extra-special group of Ya-ya's. We talk daily and I value their friendships so much. Ashley, Jill, Kelly, Kristi, Mary, Patti & Reid. Among us we have 18 kids (wow, who knew it was that many!?!?). We have met Ashley & her family in person a few times and we're going to Disney with Kelly and her family in November. I honestly don't know what I would do without my Ya's. Love you all!

So, this has been my little tribute to Baby Loss Awareness Day. Remember those tomorrow who have lost a baby.

The story behind the Princess & Shoes video

Princess absolutely LOVES shoes, especially when they're new. Her and I were playing in the living room. She had her sneakers on when we first started playing. She then discovered that her Buster Browns (the ones in the video) were also in the living room. So, she brought them over to me and had me take off her sneakers to put the BB's on. I did that. Then she played for a bit, came back to me and had me take off her shoes & her socks and then just put her shoes on with no socks. This went on for quite some time, shoes on with socks and then shoes on with no socks. Back & forth, back & forth.

At one point, she wanted me to put them back on but got mad every time I tried. She wanted me to put them on the WRONG feet. So, I did that and she was happy as a clam. She only kept them like that for a couple of minutes and then had me switch them back again. It really was quite funny.

Ok, now to remember everything I've wanted to blog about lately. See, this is why I'm no good at blogging because I have all these great things to write but can't drop everything at that moment to blog about it.

Hmmm...I've been having some great conversations with Lovebug lately. It's great when we just talk and talk. It's so wonderful to see him growing & developing in to such a little person.

Earlier tonight we were on our way home from dinner at a restaurant. Lovebug had decided that he deserved ice cream. While we were in the car, he said "Mommy, it's hard work". I asked him what was hard. He said "I want to eat ice cream". So apparently it was hard work to wait to get home to eat ice cream.

He had a scoop of ice cream when we got home and then had an orange. Even those he's a picky eater and we're torturing training him to eat better he at least eats fruits (more on that later). Hubby had given Princess her bath then brought her downstairs to say good night. I gave her a kiss and said "Good night Princess" like I do every night (yes, I say Princess). Then Lovebug gave her a hug and kiss and said "Night night Princess". Totally made us laugh! He's never called her Princess before. He then said "Night night Sissy" which is what he normally says to her and is his name for her.

Now to the eating, after the restaurant we went to Stop & Shop to get some groceries. I went to the produce section first to get some fruit. Lovebug first asked for apples, then some oranges and some plums. I'm so glad that he likes fruits so much.

Princess has been walking more & more, it's so awesome! She typically does really well unless Lovebug pushes her over which being a typical big brother he does a lot. But she's definitely getting better at it. And oh my goodness, the love of shoes she has! I brought her to the shoe store with me last weekend so I could get each of them a new pair of sneakers and get myself some new shoes. She was picking out shoes and trying to put them on, it was the sweetest thing. And she was so excited to put her new shoes on for the first time. She is definitely a girl with her love of shoes!

Babies Don't Keep

I saw a portion of this poem the other day in a store, I thought it was really sweet and of course had to track it down to find the whole poem.

Mother, O Mother, come shake out your cloth,
Empty the dustpan, poison the moth,
Hang out the washing, make up the bed,
Sew on a button and butter the bread.

Where is the mother whose house is so shocking?
She's up in the nursery, blissfully rocking.

Oh, I've grown as shiftless as Little Boy Blue,
Lullabye, rockabye, lullabye loo.
Dishes are waiting and bills are past due
Pat-a-cake, darling, and peek, peekaboo

The shopping's not done and there's nothing for stew
And out in the yard there's a hullabaloo
But I'm playing Kanga and this is my Roo
Look! Aren't his eyes the most wonderful hue?
Lullabye, rockaby lullabye loo.

The cleaning and scrubbing can wait till tomorrow
But children grow up as I've learned to my sorrow.
So quiet down cobwebs; Dust go to sleep!
I'm rocking my baby and babies don't keep.

I want my rug back and Princess walking

We had hardwood floors put in our living room/dining room a couple of months ago and had the old carpet ripped up. The other night Lovebug was running from the kitchen to the dining room and tripped over the seam between the 2 rooms. He fell but really not hard and didn't get hurt. However, the first thing he said to me was "I want my rug back", meaning that he wanted us to put the carpet back in, definitely a much softer landing surface. I explained to him that we weren't going to do that. We then went upstairs to start bedtime and he was quite happy to see the carpet upstairs in the hallway, LOL.

And just because I always have so many funny stories about Lovebug I feel I should include some stuff on Princess. She is starting to walk a lot more, she's finally not walking all funny looking. She still gets SO excited though when she walks so she ends up making herself fall over. But she walked all the way across our kitchen the other day and is doing more & more everday. Ahhh, maybe I won't be carrying her until she's 18, LOL.

Why I don't like snotty people...or maybe I'm the snotty one...

So, I was at The Little Gym with Lovebug this morning. It was "bring a friend week", we didn't bring a friend. There was a little girl that brought her friend (and his mom). The little boys older sister also came. This was a class for 2-3 year olds (that Lovebug is in) and the older sister was about 7 or 8. At the beginning of class Miss Laurie told the older kids that were there that they had to sit by the wall and watch because it was a class for younger kids. One girl sat there perfectly fine throughout the whole class (her sister is a paying student). The sister of the guest sat there for about 5 minutes and that was it. During free play this older sister was up on the high bar, standing up on it and holding on to the bar higher up. One of the workers had to come in and tell her to get down. While this girl was up there, her mother was on the other side of the room not paying any attention. Now, what do you think would've happened if this girl happened to fall and get hurt?!? Of course, then it would've been the gyms fault and not the fault of the mother or the girl that didn't listen to the rules. When the mother found out that they had said something to her daughter, she looked annoyed! Ok, what the heck are you annoyed at?!? The fact that you're there AS A GUEST and not paying for it, it's a class for 2-3 year olds and you're letting your older child run around as if it's her class. Maybe it's that sense of entitlement that people these days seem to have, I really thought that was only the younger generation but apparently not.
So, is it her that's snotty for thinking she's entitled or is it me who thinks it's wrong that I pay good money to bring my child to that class and don't think people should take advantage of it who aren't paying?

And this isn't a snotty story, just sort of funny. There's a little boy in the class who likes to sit in Miss Laurie's lap at the beginning of class and at the end when we do the welcome & good-bye song. He sat there during the welcome song but for the good-bye song, some other little boy sat there. This kid threw a FIT!!! He was telling his mom it wasn't fair, to be honest I didn't hear her response but I hope she told him that it was fair because he sat there at the beginning of class and now it was someone elses turn.

Oh yes, and that reminds me of another snotty story!! During the instruction part of the class the kids were working on their monkey jumps. The good kids in the class wait their turn patiently. The kids whose parents apparently don't know how to discipline are getting in everyone elses way and trying to go over and over again. I swear that Miss Laurie is a saint and not telling the parents to control their children!

I know someone is probably thinking that they're there to have fun and they should be able to play and I totally agree. But when each child is told to wait their turn and kids just don't listen, why can't the parent get up and move them to another area of the gym. There's plenty of things to do.

So, again is it me that's snotty for thinking that a child should be taught to wait their turn or is it them for thinking that their child can go over & over again and not give the other children a chance? Hmmm...

I'm so glad he knows his name...

This morning Lovebug was in the bathroom with me while I was doing my
hair. We were having a conversation about The Little Gym. He loves his
teacher Miss Laurie. I told him (like I do every Saturday) that
Princess goes first then he goes. He said he didn't want Sissy (his
name for Princess) to go. Trying to reason with him I said that
Princess goes to the little kid class and is a Bird. And that he goes
to the big kid class and is a Super Beast. He thought about it and
said "Sissy is a bird?". I said "Yes and you're a Super Beast.". And
what is his natural response to that? No I'm First name last name (
and that loses all it's humor not using real names). And then he said
and Sissy is Sissy Last name. I really think that he believes that
Princesses first name is Sissy.

When you teach your toddler to use your iPhone...

...this is what you end up with in your pictures. Lovebug was apparently using the Curious George Coloring Book app (his new favorite) and saved this to my pictures. I assume that Curious George is somewhere underneath all of the hearts but it's hard to tell.

Yes, both of my toddlers have an obsession with my phone. Bad, I know! I've created monsters. The picture below was taken when I asked Princess to show me her shirt. She stood up to show it to me and then proceeded to walk to me (a huge accomplishment since she's still against walking all the time). As she was walking towards me, she was saying "I see" the whole time.

I have found that Lovebug knowing how to use my phone though does have its benefits. If I want him to be quiet while we're somewhere I just hand it to him and he's happy. I have a page of apps that are just for him (Wheels on the Bus, Old McDonald, Monkey's Jumping on the Bed and now Curious George coloring app). He loves them all. He also knows how to scroll through the pictures and watch videos. He occasionally tries to send an email but so far he hasn't figured that out, phew!

The other day he wanted to go with me to watch Sissy (his name for Princess) at The Little Gym. I took him along. He sat out in the viewing area and watched her whole close. Part way through I gave him my phone just to make sure he stayed quiet (he is not even 3 yet afterall). He played with it until the class was over. When I went out after class the father that was sitting out there, commented on how amazed he was that Lovebug knew how to use the phone so well and was scrolling through pictures. He even knew how to go to the menu and find the next thing he wanted to play with. *sigh* yes I have definitely created a monster...

Ah HA!!! I just sent this to my blog from my phone...woo hoo! Glad to see that it worked. The story about this picture will be included in the blog above.

Labor Day pictures

These pictures were taken on Labor Day on The Hartford Belle. www.hartfordbelle.com

Not your typical blog

I should warn everyone now that this isn't going to be your typical blog with long posts that talk about so much. My life just doesn't allow for that, so instead each post will most likely be a small snipit. I hope you enjoy it nonetheless.

You put your paint on?

Yes, that's what Lovebug said to me the other morning as he watched me put on my make-up before leaving for work. He considers my "paint" to be my blush. Hubby says it's because the blush brush looks like a paint brush and I guess that makes sense. It does make me laugh in the morning though that Lovebug says to me "You put your blush on mommy". It really is very cute!

The innocence of an almost 3 year old

Tonight as I was getting Lovebug ready for his bath, he was really whiney. I said to him "it must be hard being 2 years and 10 months old, huh?" His response was "No, I'm Lovebug". (of course he used his real name and not Lovebug) Totally cracked me up. It was similar to the other night when I called him my little monkey and he told me that no he was Lovebug.

Trying to get back to blogging

Now that it's been almost a year since I set up this blog and last updated it, I think it's time to try again. I figure I will use this as a place to capture the many funny things that happen in our life.

Lovebug keeps wanting to sing his ABC's. They go something like this A, B, C, D...won't you sing with me. Or other times he says: A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, I, J, K, L, Momo, P, Q, R, S, T, U, V, W, X, Y, Z, etc, etc. The funny part in there is the Momo for M, N, O. Momo is what he calls my mom, apparently he thinks she's part of the ABC's, it's really the funniest thing when he does it.

This morning I thought I'd get back into my Sunday morning walk. What I failed to realize is that a month has passed since the last time we went for a walk and it's darn cold out in the morning. I didn't pack a blanket or anything to put over Princess, I at least remembered her jacket. But at only 49 degrees it was a bit chilly so we only walked for about 10 minutes. Oh well, we tried.

Oh, another funny Lovebug story. We are trying to get him to eat new foods, so we can get him off his jelly sandwich or chicken nugget diet before we go to Disney. We are using some bribery to do it. The other night we were trying to get him to eat Spaghetti. The other night I was bribing him with M&M's for every couple of bites of spaghetti he had. He looked at Hubby, completely seriously and said "You eat your spaghetti daddy and you can have M&M's". Ahh, gotta love the mind of a toddler.

I know there's many more funny things that have happened but they have slipped my mind right now.
